14 questions, about 90 seconds — find out your character in no time
The Light version of BIG5, the world's most reliable personality theory, crossed with attachment theory.
It determines your outward face (your character) and your hidden face in 90 seconds.
"In a hurry, are you? Right then — I'll open your page in 90 seconds."
A 14-question short version for a quick try during a break or whenever you have time.
For a broader set of questions, try the Standard version (44 questions, about 5 minutes). Both versions offer characters and interpretations, but different question coverage can lead to different results.
ABOUT THIS TEST
This Light version is a shortened version that keeps, out of the full version (46 questions), only the items with high discriminating power for each factor. Cutting the number of items lowers the accuracy, but not uniformly. The more extreme someone's tendency, the more correctly it comes out even with short questions, and the closer to the middle someone is, the more it wobbles.
So if many of your factors came out close to "neither," measuring again with the full version gives a result you can accept. Conversely, factors that showed a clear tendency settle at almost the same place in the full version too.
With fewer items, each question carries more weight. Rather than "how you feel at that moment," picture your ordinary self over the past six months or so and answer from that. Also, the more you try to look good, the more the result drifts toward the average, and the sense that it fits fades.
This quiz is not a medical examination. Please use the result as a rough guide for putting your own tendencies into words. Answers are used only to calculate your result and for anonymous statistical aggregation, and no personally identifying information is collected.
Analyzing your outward and hidden sides…
Finding your character type with BIG5 and attachment theory
So far, the focus has been on what may be happening for the other person. What happens on your side of a relationship deserves its own reflection too.
What you are watching now Big 5 Light (14 questions, about 2 minutes). Quizzes differ in role by what they measure and how far in they go. In the chart below, check where you are now and which one will mesh if you take it next.
Because the Light version measures each factor with few items, you can grasp the whole picture in 90 seconds. On the other hand, accuracy drops for factors whose score lands in the middle band. Extremely high and extremely low factors come out stably even in the shortened version, so it suits you when you first want to know your standout parts. If you want to see fine scores and combinations between factors, choose the 40-question full version or the 66-question Precision version.
In a short quiz, the more you think it over, the more the image of "the desirable self" mixes in. Many Big Five items make the socially good direction obvious, so the more time you take, the more the answers bend toward the ideal. Judging each item in a few seconds actually produces values closer to your real tendency. When you hesitate, choose whichever came to mind first.
This Light version suits people taking a personality quiz for the first time, people whose concentration does not last through long questions, and people who first want to see only the feel of the result. Since 14 questions bring out both the outward face and the hidden face, you can survey your personality tendency and how you keep distance with people at the same time. If your interest is roused here, moving on to the 40-question full version, and to the 66-question Precision version if you want accuracy down to the numbers, is a natural flow.
Factors whose score sits in the middle band wobble when there are few questions. If the Light version and the Precision version disagree, it is reasonable to think that the factor is in a standoff inside you. Extremely high and extremely low factors come out stably in any version, so first take those standout parts as your own features.
Very many people drop out of a personality quiz partway, and the biggest factor is how long it takes. By narrowing the Light version to 14 questions, you can reach the result on the spot, the moment you think of it. The accuracy drops, but the judgment is that there is more to be gained from taking it than from ending up not taking it.
If something feels off in the shortened version, the first thing to suspect is a middle-band factor. Extreme factors come out stably even in a short quiz, but factors near the middle are affected by the number of questions. Taking the 40-question full version or the 66-question Precision version tells you which factors are in a standoff.
The simple version is an entrance for grasping the rough high and low of each of the five factors. Clearly high and clearly low tendencies come out stably even in the simple version, but factors sitting in the middle band cannot be fully measured. The fine components inside a factor — for Conscientiousness, the difference between the side that likes order and the side that heads for achievement — are also not separated, because of the number of questions. Using it as a tool for grasping the overall outline, and checking any factor that bothers you with the Precision version, is the practical order.
If, looking at the simple version's result, some factor is extremely high or low, or is greatly out of step with your self-perception, the Precision version is worth taking. Most of the reasons a gap appears lie in the difference of which scene of yourself you pictured when answering. As the number of questions increases, the scatter across scenes is averaged out, so it settles at a more stable value. The Precision version also gives the breakdown for each factor, so you become able to verify for yourself why the number came out as it did.
